January-February Recap
Well its been almost 3 weeks since I posted anything meaningful…
I guess I was busy but just an excuse. I was just lazy at night to write a tumblr post and then go to bed. Regardless, I think there are so many things that happened this month that I need to put it down somewhere.
So here we go.
Well I’ll start from the Freshmen AAIV Dinner. It was a great night even though I had a lot of stuff to do that day, it was really nice all dressing up in suits with bow ties. It was nice to see everyone dress so formally. You don’t get to be in a fancy dinner that often in college! But we had a great dinner made by the upperclassman while they also gave us entertainment with classical music, rap, singing, and a video they made! Thanks to all of the AAIV upperclassmen! It was such a great chill night and really made me want to do the same for the freshman coming next year! As Kevin Li would say “Don’t pay back, pay it forward.”
Hmm what next….Can’t think there must have been…oh! Celebrasia!!!
This was another great event ran by TASC and CSA. Many celebrities such as Arden Cho, Kinjaz, and Dumfounded came. I mean I had no idea who they were until they saw them, but I must say they are worth the fame! Other then that the Chinese Acrobats were amazing and all the student performances groups were excellent too! I especially enjoyed supporting my good friend Jun Sung. His Chinese Yo-Yo is always amazes me. I’m glad that I am able to learn it soon!
After Celebraisa went to Amanda’s birthday party, which by the time we went it was kinda already over, but I finally got to see what Evanston Place looked like! And looked so nice! I really want to live there Junior year! It would be so awesome to live in an apartment with friends and all.
Hmmm what do we have….New Comm was good! First time I’ve been to New Comm since I went there one time in fall quarter. It happened to be the 10th Anniversary of the church! So I got to hear how the church was founded and how it has grown since.I never realized how diverse New Comm was. I really never have seen a church that diverse. Literally I think there are 1/3 asians, 1/3 black people, and 1/3 white People. It was also interesting how the church was initially founded by a bunch of college students like me! Its amazing what you can achieve while you are in college. Made me think of not only what I can achieve after college, but also what I can achieve right now to influence the society around me. In that sense I really do feel like I should do more, either study more, do more volunteering, or just do more as a Christian in general. Its hard though, or my laziness has become a habit that I embody as a life pattern now. I’ll need to actually try though, instead of always saying I’ll “try.”
THEN!
we have FILM PRODUCTION!
IT was one of the best film productions I worked on in college. Its probably because I got promoted to 1st Assistant Director because the Nikki got sick. However, I feel like I really needed this opportunity to see what I can manage and what I am good out. Now, I feel fairly confident on what I can do with the position not because I did a good job on this one, but now I know what I really need to improve next time I am an 1st AD. Regardless, I had a such great experience from working with an amazing cast and crew. First of all the script is so engaging and so filled with emotions and visual, that it was just amazing to see all that comet life perfectly, and even better than what I have imagined. I had also great time being in a position where I answer questions instead of ask all the time. Its good to have more control on a film set where you feel like you have more say. Since I was doing both 1st AD and Script Supervisor, I had a hard time actually keeping continuity. Especially at the end where we had to rush, I was so worried we had cut some major important shots because of time constraints…But seems like it all worked out and got what we needed! The actors were all friendly and phenomenal. This was the first set I worked on that I experienced an extremely intense and emotional scene where the actor really had to get in the mood, so we had to be quiet and after the cut she was still in the mood so had to be careful. One thing I realized for those scenes is that for the crew, even though most of the time we keep a joking manner, it is not good to always joke around, because the actors cannot concentrate on getting an emotional mood. This I really should have realized earlier and kept the crew under control, but alas I had to rely on the director to tell me most of these stuff. Nevertheless, learned so much from it and I am so excited to see the final product of the film.
And NOW
This weekend was good as well!
Finally got to hangout with my bros. Since last week I basically was gone All friday, saturday, and sunday from 7 am till 12 pm. So it was nice to just have a chill relax weekend with friends. Some minor conflicts popped up here and there but I think they are all meant to happen and could not have been (nor it should have been) avoided.
I dropped my Macro to Economics class though. I feel like that was just a failure on me. I really should have done better on the midterm no matter how much I was bored out of my mind with that class. I hope I do good on my two midterms on monday, but need to put more effort in these. Can’t always rely on my test skills…
Well, that seems like all the major events!
Can’t believe I’m already half-way done my school year…I’m so comfortably adjusted to college life that I feel like its been so much more longer since I just started school. How much have changed since september! How I would have never imagined any of what happened when I first came to school…(I really didn’t think I would hangout with all asian friends haha).
Its been great and I am looking very forward to next quarter. Part of the reason why I love the quarter system! Because its like having 3 different school years! Every quarter is so new and exciting! (of course unless I take terrible classes haha).
Seize the day.
